The focus of my best bet tonight is the main event middleweight fight between Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero.

I’m surprised by the odds in this one. Rockhold has only fought twice in the last two years, dropping the belt to Bisping and then winning a comeback fight against David Branch where he had to face plenty of adversity. Romero hasn’t been any more active, but his vicious KO of Chris Weidman and subsequent fight for the interim title proves to be a little more to show for the last two years.

Many have begun to question Luke’s chin but perhaps it is the retroactive quality of opponent that should be in question at this point. Arguably his biggest win other than when he captures the title, is an aged Lyoto Machida. Though maybe this says more about the middleweight division than Rockhold himself.

I expect Romero to employ his usual strategy here of not doing much at all until he finds his point of attack and explodes. I could see his inactivity actually putting Rockhold off, as he seems to be a fighter who performs best when he has the least to think about.

Due to the nature of the match up and how I expect the fight to go down, I’m turning away from the moneyline and looking at the props.

My best bet(s) for UFC 221 is Romero in round 2 @ 12.0, +1100 (Ladbrokes, Coral), and Romero in round 3 @ 19.0, +1800 (SkyBet). Both bets are 0.5u.
