Bryan Caraway vs Cody Stamann
Cody Stamann has impressed in his freshman and sophomore performances in the UFC, displaying a mix of a Karate-style, blended with wrestling, that is more uncommon in the New Era of UFC. Carrying his Teammate/Coach Daron Cruickshank’s torch, now that “The Detroit Superstar” is in RIZIN will be no easy task. This will be Stamann’s biggest test, taking on division mainstay, Bryan Caraway, in the veterans’ return fight, after almost 2 years away from the Octagon.
As good as Stamann has looked in the UFC, there are 2 key disadvantages that I’ve noticed in his style…
1.) He is very hittable early on in a fight, and during any prolonged exchanges on the feet.
2.) After a takedown, he gives his opponent ample space to maneuver, or even get up completely.
These are just two of the reasons why I’m siding with Bryan Caraway in this fight, given the fact that he has an exceptional ground game, which should lead to reversals into dominant positions on Stamann, and an unorthodox, yet effective striking style, that has shown to frustrate much better strikers (on paper).
Pick: Caraway (+135)
